When it's time to call a plumber

Surface rust on an old cast-iron pipe, a recurring damp patch at the bottom of a wall, dropping water pressure or increasingly frequent blockages are all signs that the pipework needs attention before an emergency happens. The sooner we look at the problem, the cheaper and less invasive the solution.

If the pipework is still intact but ageing (cast iron, galvanised steel), it's worth considering a planned replacement with PPR or PEX pipes — this avoids surprise leaks in the future.

How the work proceeds

You call or write, describe the problem and we agree a suitable time. In an urgent situation the nearest available fitter is sent out as soon as possible.

The fitter assesses the pipework's condition on site, explains the solution options and states the price before starting work. The most common materials and fittings are carried in the service van, so most jobs are completed in a single visit.

Materials and solutions we work with

For indoor water supply we mainly use PPR and PEX pipes, copper where needed; for sewerage, PP pipes and transitions to existing cast-iron pipework. On outdoor mains we use PE pipe, joined by welding.

We choose the material based on where the pipe sits and how accessible it will be later: a section built into a wall or floor calls for a solution with as few joints as possible, while a visible run can include maintenance valves and inspection hatches.

What affects the scope and price of the work

Price is affected by the pipework's material and condition, access (exposed pipe vs. built into a wall or floor), the length and number of fittings needed, and whether water needs to be shut off to other flats during the work. The exact price can only be given after inspecting the site.

Scope is usually increased by demolition and reinstatement work: opening up tiling, chiselling concrete or opening a ceiling. If we can route the run visibly or use an existing duct, the job stays faster and cheaper.
