When should a water heater be replaced?
If the tank itself is leaking, replacement is the only solution. But if the water doesn't heat, heats slowly, or the safety valve keeps letting water through, it's a repairable fault — heating element, thermostat, anode or scale.
We tell you honestly on site which is more worthwhile: if the old unit's tank is rusted through or several repairable parts need replacing at once, replacement makes more sense than repeated repairs. See the separate water heater repair and water heater replacement pages.
